Book Review: That Summer

That Summer by Sarah Dessen
This was Sarah Dessen's first book, and I have to admit that it made me cry. Through the story, Haven is feeling incredibly vunerable. Everyone in her family is progressing to new parts of their lives, and no one seems to think about how it is affecting her. Even Haven's best friend, fresh from summer camp, is consumed with her own stories. Then, Sumner Lee walks back into Haven's life. Haven relies on his friendship and her memories of the blissful season when he dated her sister a little too much, and finds that what seems perfect may not always be so. This book really captures what it feels like to be left behind when everyone else is moving on.

Not to be rude or anything... i really didn't like this book. I felt like there was no reason I read it because nothing changed from the beginning to the end except that she found out that truth about Ashley's ex. I really debating whether or not i should continue to read Sarah Dessen's books if they are all like this one. Give me anyone who reads this' opinon. Are all the books like this one? No change?

I've read almost all of Sarah dessens boooks and they are all amazing... "That summer" was defenently her most uninterestin book but it was also her first book that she wrote (she wrote it in college) her other books are better... lock and key is an amazing book its kinda long but if your not afraid of a thick book i highly recomend it... all her books almost have same theme of a teenage girl who has lost or hasn't yet found confidence or "herslef" and through the book between the people she meets and things of the past she learns about she then grows into a strong confident girl with her realationships of the people in the bigging of the book grow into better relationships...

basically dont judge the auther by her first book..
also "this lullaby" is very good.

reading this novel i got board, it was a push to keep reading, i read it as a two part novel study in my tenth grade class as a project, because it was part of the flim "how to deal". i didnt really like the book and didnt see it really come to life, haven herself didnt change much and there was parts of the book that i was wondering why they were even there they didnt seem to be very relavent at all. I think that even if it was her first novel and done in collage it could have been alot better.
