Rocking Away Fines!

Last Thursday we had 9 teens show up to lower their overdue fines by playing Rock Band! While the attendance is a little lower than usual, 8 out of the 9 patrons had their fines completely erased during the event! In three hours we got rid of $100 of overdue fines, so I think that can still be considered a big success! Thanks to everyone who came in to get their fines done!

Rock Away Your Fines

With Summer starting, it was a great time to come in to the library and get rid of some fines by playing Rock Band! For every song you played, the library would deduct $1 from your overdue fines! We had a great turn out of 22 teens, and over the course of three hours we played enough to take off $126 worth of fines! Way to go! Of the 22, 16 had their fines paid off completely! Thanks to everyone that came out, and congratulations on getting down your fines! Now go check out some books!

Rocking Away Fines!

Yesterday from 1 to 5 was our "Rock Away Your Fines" event, where teens were invited to drop in and play some Rock Band to get rid of their library card fines. For every song they played, we deducted $1 of fines from their card! A total of 24 teens showed up, and we got rid of $141 in fines! Hopefully this will help a lot of them to get started on checking out books again for the Summer! I was asked by quite a few people when I would be doing this again, so I'll look for ways to possibly fit another one in before the fall. Rock Band worked pretty well for this type of event, but maybe for the next one we could try something new. Big thanks to everyone that came in and participated!

Rockin' Awesome!

Yesterday, 17 teens dropped in for our Rock Away Your Fines program!  Teens got $1 removed from their overdue fines for every game of Rock Band they played all afternoon.  We played Rock Band 1 & 2, Lego Rock Band, and the Beatles edition.  (We tried Green Day, but it wasn't working for some reason.)  Some people got their fines down to $0, and most got them under $10 so they can use their cards again.  Good effort, everyone--altogether, we got rid of $169 in fines!!!  Special thanks to those with higher fines for dedicating a lot of time to this event.  I gave you all a little bonus, and I hope you can get your fines down below $10 soon!

If you missed this event, we may do it again in the future.  Last summer, we did it with Dance Dance Revolution.  We could do that again, or we could try something like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Just Dance, or MarioKart.  Let me know what you think!

Rock Band and Book Swap

To kick off Teen Read Week, we had book swap and Rock Band all afternoon on Saturday!  Only 11 people showed up, but most stayed for the whole time.  We played all of our Rock Band games, belting out everything from metal to the Beatles.  Twenty-four books got swapped, and I gave everyone a free book just for showing up.

The theme for Teen Read Week this year is Books with Beat, so look for some books that rock on our display cart in the teen section or check this blog post!

Rock Band Jam Session

Last Wednesday, 13 people showed up for our spring Rock Band Jam Session. There was no love for The Beatles, but Rock Band 2 and Lego Rock Band got a lot of time. We had a lot of different people singing, not just our usual two or three. I did Two Princes by the Spin Doctors! I am going to get more Rock Band songs before our next event this summer, so that's something to look forward to. Thanks to everyone who showed up to play!

Rock On!

Yesterday, 25 people showed up to play Rock Band after school. It was a little crazy, but a lot of fun! We started with Rock Band: The Beatles, but as more people arrived we switched to Rock Band 2. A bunch of people were willing to sing, so it gave Avis and me a break! It probably helped that we have the house rule of letting the singer pick the song to play. Some people who attended were really amazing players, so a lot of people watched the game when they weren't playing. Of course, everyone enjoyed the snacks, demolishing two big bags of cookies, a giant package of string cheese, and some clementines. We will definitely do this a few times over the winter, so be sure to check the schedule when it comes out next month.
